Folia Files vs Kondor

Folia Files or Kondor?

Kondor appeared in June 2026: a native dual-pane file manager with a free Lite version and a Pro subscription full of inspection tools. Folia Files goes further on panes, search and help across the whole Mac, for a single price. Here is what each does best.

7 days free with every feature, no account, no card. Then $49.99 once for up to 3 Macs, every future update included — no subscription.

Folia Files with three panes and several tabs

In short

Choose Kondor if two panes are enough and you want a free app for local files, or a Pro subscription ($19 a year) with servers and clouds built in, previews of huge files in text or hex, an editable text diff and file splitting. Choose Folia Files if you want more than two panes and saved scenes, a terminal that follows your folder, search inside your files, a clipboard history, a drawer and an assistant in every app's Open and Save dialogs, in 8 languages, for $49.99 once on up to three Macs.

Where Kondor shines

Kondor is made for careful file jobs. Its preview pane reads multi-gigabyte text and binary files page by page, as text, code, hex, image or video. It compares and edits two text files side by side, checks SHA-256, SHA-512, SHA-1 and MD5 checksums, splits large files and joins them again, and gathers files from many folders on a Collect Shelf to act on them all at once.

Kondor Lite is free for local work: panes, tabs, file operations, previews, themes and basic archives. Pro adds FTP, FTPS, SFTP, WebDAV, S3, Google Drive and Dropbox, folder compare and sync with presets, advanced archives and batch image and video conversion. Ten versions came out between June and September 2026.

Where Folia Files goes further

Kondor shows two panes; Folia Files splits its window as often as you like and saves each arrangement as a scene. Its terminal sits under the pane and follows it (website edition), where Kondor opens Terminal, iTerm or Ghostty. Search finds words inside your documents and screenshots, and photos by what they show, all on your Mac.

  • A clipboard history (⌃⌥V) and a drawer at the screen edge, in every app
  • A panel next to every app's Open and Save dialogs
  • Space Lens and Mac care: see what fills your disk, uninstall apps with their leftovers
  • A history where every operation can be undone, line by line
  • In English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese and Chinese, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs

Servers: in a subscription, or through rclone

In Kondor, remote and cloud locations are part of Pro. Folia Files mounts SMB, WebDAV, FTP, AFP and NFS shares itself, and reaches SFTP, S3 and clouds through rclone, a free open-source tool you install once. Mounted connections are disks for the whole Mac — the Finder and every Open dialog see them. If you want servers built in with nothing else to install, Kondor Pro is simpler.

Price: free, yearly, or once

Kondor Lite costs nothing. Kondor Pro is $19 a year on its website; on the Mac App Store, Pro is an in-app purchase listed at $14.99. Folia Files has no free version: every feature for 7 days, then $49.99 once for up to three Macs at a time, with no subscription.

Which one to choose

Kondor, if…

  • You want a free dual-pane app for your local files
  • You open huge logs or binary files, and edit text diffs
  • You want servers and clouds built in, and a yearly subscription suits you
  • Two panes are enough for you

Folia Files, if…

  • You want three or four folders in view, and layouts you reopen
  • You want a terminal in the pane and search inside your files
  • You want a clipboard history, a drawer and help in Open and Save dialogs, without three more apps
  • You would rather pay once, or want the app in your language

Website edition and Mac App Store

Everything on this page is in the website edition. In the Mac App Store edition, Apple's sandbox rules out the terminal and custom commands; SFTP, S3, folder sync and the Open/Save assistant work there with Folia Files Companion, a small free app.

Questions

Kondor Lite is free for local file work. Servers, clouds, folder sync, advanced archives and media conversion are in Kondor Pro, $19 a year on its website. Folia Files has no free version: every feature for 7 days, then $49.99 once.

Kondor is, with an App Store edition that leaves out some terminal, command-line, administrator and device helpers. Folia Files arrives there soon, without the built-in terminal and custom commands; SFTP, sync and the Open/Save assistant work there with the free Folia Files Companion.

Folia Files does: it is a universal app for macOS 14 or later. Kondor's Mac App Store listing asks for macOS 14 and a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later).
